Subspecialty surgical practice

Assessment and treatment of benign and malignant breast conditions, including oncoplastic breast surgery: therapeutic breast reductions, partial breast reconstruction, and implant-based reconstruction.

Consultation covers breast lumps, screening and diagnostic findings, and the surgical management of breast cancer. Oncoplastic techniques are used where appropriate to address the cancer and the appearance of the breast in a single considered plan. Treatment is coordinated with radiology, pathology, oncology and reconstructive colleagues through multidisciplinary meeting review.

Thyroid, parathyroid and adrenal surgery.

Assessment and surgical management of thyroid nodules and cancers, hyperparathyroidism and adrenal tumours. Investigation is arranged alongside endocrinology colleagues so that the indication for surgery, and the alternatives to it, are clear before a decision is made.

Surgical management of soft tissue sarcoma as part of multidisciplinary care.

Soft tissue sarcoma is uncommon and benefits from structured multidisciplinary input. Care includes assessment of soft tissue masses, coordination of imaging and biopsy, and surgical management planned with sarcoma medical and radiation oncology services.

Assessment and treatment of skin cancers, lymph nodes, and benign conditions including lipomas and sebaceous cysts.

Selected general surgical conditions are seen alongside the subspecialty practice, including skin and soft tissue lesions and other conditions suited to elective surgical assessment. Where a condition is better managed by another service, an appropriate onward referral is arranged.
